Re-define loyalty:   Being loyal, for you, should mean you give your job 100% no more, no less.   Your rewardthe salary they pay you. Plan for the long-haul: Start saving today for the unexpected. Unemployment wont cut it for very long Past Managers need to remember you:   Stay in touch with past managers/references, just because Window shop:   Create alerts and apply for jobs all the time Develop partnerships:   Contact several recruiters and make sure they know your capabilities Devote time to mingle:   Every month you should be attending a professional meeting to network and learn whats happening outside you your company Be ready to go:   Resume, marketing plan, personal business cards, and 45 second commercial should all be up to date and in use all the time Get your head out of the sand: identify or update companies you would want to work for on your marketing plan It takes time to ramp up a job search from a dead start.   Begin revving your engines now, while your in the right mind set and it will be a lot easier.
